Shining a Light on Vascular Birthmarks Awareness Day with Sciton Cares & ClearV®

May 13, 2025—Every year on May 15, people around the world recognize Vascular Birthmarks Awareness Day—a time to raise awareness, show support, and highlight the stories of those living with vascular birthmarks and related conditions, such as port-wine stains or hemangiomas. For many, these marks are more than just skin deep. They can affect confidence, health, and quality of life, especially for children.

At Sciton, we believe that access to advanced laser treatments shouldn’t be a luxury. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight Sciton Cares—our global initiative providing free laser treatments to underserved patients with vascular and birthmark lesions or scars from injuries or burns.

The goal? Simple. Change lives, one treatment at a time.

Whether it’s reducing long-term skin complications, managing vascular symptoms in complex cases, or helping patients feel more confident in their skin, the impact of Sciton’s technology can be life-changing.

Sciton supports the VBF’s mission at the 30th anniversary gala

Sciton was honored to participate in the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation’s (VBF) 30th Anniversary Super Clinic and Gala Weekend, held October 4–5, 2024. The event brought together families, physicians, and advocates from across the country to celebrate three decades of life-changing work in the vascular birthmarks community.

As part of the weekend’s events, Dr. Roy G. Geronemus, MD, Director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, was awarded the first-ever VBF Lifetime Achievement Award—a recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the field. Sciton’s ClearV technology plays a key role in Dr. Geronemus’ practice, allowing him to treat a wide range of vascular concerns in patients of all skin types.

ClearV for vascular birthmarks & lesions

Sciton’s ClearV® laser (Nd:YAG 1064 nm) is a key tool in the treatment of vascular birthmarks. ClearV is engineered specifically to address vascular conditions on the face and body, delivering energy deep into the skin to target both visible and subsurface vessels. Its proprietary Subsurface Vein Illumination (SVI) technology, built directly into the handpiece, enables providers to visualize deeper feeder veins with precision. An integrated cooling system helps maintain comfort and protect the skin throughout treatment.

According to Dr. Antonio Campo, MD, Director of Médico Clínica Campo-Optimage in Barcelona, ClearV is “the best vascular device on the market” for clearing vessels on both the face and body without harming surrounding tissue. In many cases, visible improvement can be seen after just one treatment, with sessions typically spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

ClearV can be used to treat a wide range of vascular concerns, including:

      • Facial telangiectasias
      • Periorbital veins
      • Reticular veins
      • Rosacea
      • Cherry and spider angiomas
      • Venous lakes
      • Warts
      • Port wine stains
      • Unwanted vessels and broken capillaries
ScitonStaX™ ClearV & BBL® HEROic™ for complex vascular cases

Several case studies by Dr. Campo highlight the success of ScitonStaX treatment, ClearV paired with BroadBand Light® (BBL®), in treating deep hypertrophic lesions with high vascular complexity, including port wine stains. By leveraging BBL HEROic’s ability to target pigmentation, redness, and vascular issues alongside ClearV’s deeper penetration, this pairing offers a comprehensive approach to managing even the most complex vascular skin conditions.

Targeting the root cause of vascular inflammation

On Instagram, Erin Hennessey, DNP, APRN, explains how ClearV goes deeper than surface vessels, targeting feeder veins—the hidden culprits behind persistent redness. By addressing the root cause of inflammation, ClearV helps reduce flare-ups, resulting in visibly clearer and healthier-looking skin. Additionally, the 1064 wavelength may help calm inflamed skin.

A non-invasive option for orbital veins

Dr. Mai Kaga, MD, points to ClearV’s effectiveness in treating visible under-eye veins—an area that can be challenging to conceal with makeup and difficult to treat with other devices. In her experience, patients are often surprised at how quickly the blue orbital veins respond, with noticeable improvement in just minutes. She’s also found ClearV to be helpful for treating leg veins, making it a versatile option for vascular indications across multiple areas of the body.

Targeting small vessels with precision: ClearV and 532™+ BBL® filter

When treating smaller vascular lesions, such as cherry angiomas, telangiectasia, or poikiloderma, ClearV can be paired with the 532™+ BBL® narrow-band filter and 3 mm conical adapter for even more targeted results, especially in lighter skin types (Fitzpatrick I–III). As Dr. Sheriff Ibrahim, MD, PhD, explains in a webinar, “I use the HEROic 532+ BBL filter for both vascular and pigment, such as small vessels or redness, but there is nothing like it for the small seborrheic keratoses lesions.”

StaX ClearV, BBL HEROic & ClearSilk: Comprehensive skin renewal

When combined with other technologies, the benefits go even further. Stacked together on the mJOULE 1064 platformClearV, BBL HEROic, and ClearSilk provide a powerful, non-invasive treatment combination for addressing vascular concerns, reducing redness, improving skin tone, and promoting overall skin revitalization. Together, they allow providers to treat multiple layers of the skin in a single session, delivering visible, long-lasting results with minimal downtime.

What to expect from a ClearV treatment

ClearV treatments are generally quick, lasting between 10 and 30 minutes, and are often performed immediately after consultation. No numbing is required, and recovery is minimal—patients can usually return to their normal routine and even apply makeup immediately.

From a clinical perspective, ClearV is both efficient and cost-effective. It doesn’t require consumables like gel or anesthetic, and its indication-based software makes treatment planning straightforward. Features such as SVI and adjustable spot sizes via the VascuZoom ring give providers greater control and precision during treatment.

Healing powered by technology and heart

When cutting-edge technology is guided by compassion, the results can truly be life-changing. With ClearV, physicians have a powerful tool to treat vascular conditions while offering patients something even more meaningful—renewed hope.

Through Sciton Cares, that hope is reaching farther—uniting providers around a shared mission to restore confidence and deliver care where it’s needed most. To learn more about ScitonCares, visit https://scitoncares.com/
